Alison Shanks - Cyclist

Alison Shanks talked to our school about training for cycling. She is an ex-pupil of Macandrew Bay School and Mrs Matthews was her teacher. Alison has only been cycling for 4 years and she won first place in the 2009 World Championships and won the Rainbow Jersey. She came 4th in the 2008 Beging Olympics. She is the 5th fastest woman in the world to complete 12 laps. Alison is great at training to be a better cyclist. She never gives up, she practices hard, and she has a "Can-do" attitude. When she feels disappointed or scared, she finds a way to feel good again. Even when she doesn't feel like going out to train, she tells herself, she has to. She is very disciplined. One time she had to race with a dislocated shoulder. She is very brave, too. Alison is a hero.
